Hi all! I'm Autistic, with ADHD, Depression, Anxiety AND C-PTSD. I'm wondering how y'all manage to function day to day? How do you manage to not overextend/over exert yourself?! 🥴 I decided I was going to string Christmas lights outside yesterday after my maintenance massage (my other chronic physical stuff thanks me for it!) buuuut then got into a mild fender bender with a really rude lady-using that term rather loosely! Then today I wanted to build my new bedframe. I will now be spending the rest of the weekend recuperating and I get frustrated because I just don't know how to pace myself. 🙃
Also, I'm always on the hunt for the next best fidget toy, people's favorite sensory support tools/devices.
I look forward to the open discussions that will happen here. MANY thanks to Zara for setting this up!! I really love some of the earrings you've been selling, look forward to snagging some other ones next release, as I could only grab one pair by the time I saw her post. Very excited she's got soooo much traction already! ❤️
Hi! I have AuDHD, tics, Schizoaffective Disorder, bipolar type, and a lot of chronic pain problems. My life is exhausting to say the least. One thing I would recommend is researching the spoon theory and using that to track your energy and try to give yourself lots of rest. Another thing I do is make a list of the activities that are restful to me, like playing music or painting or writing, or even just laying on the floor listening to music, only put things that take very little energy to do. You can use those things to recuperate and rest, while still feeling productive or at least tricking your brain into thinking you're being productive, because I know it can be really hard to let yourself rest.
For pacing, I find that the spoon theory really helps me and just making sure that I have one or two full rest days during the week.
For sensory input, I love my galaxy lamp, weighted blanket, soft toys and my fidget toys. I try and make my room a safe place with all of these so I can go there when I am overwhelmed or need to rest.
Hope this helps you in some way 😊
I made a communication hoodie, basically just one of your favourite clothes, any will do, and write, paint and draw frequent frases, anything from your coffee order to yes and no. This helps me when I'm having a bad selective mutism day, or if I dislocate my jaw (I gave EDS) hope this helps xx
